Obama Arrives in Afghanistan

Barry is overseas… like the Beatles, he’s causing quite the rukus.  His tour is set to include Aghanistan (the forgotten venue), Israel, the West Bank, Europe, and Iraq.

Everyone is watching, so he’s either going to up his foreign policy cred or make a McCain-like gaffe with no Liebermann in sight.

I highly doubt that, but I’ve been wrong many times.

AP video below discussing Obama’s meeting with Afghan leaders.

Gambian President Declares War On Gays

Back in May Gambia’s closeted gay President Yahya Jammeh vowed to “cut off the head” of any homosexual in the country.  This is an open call for genocide.

Guy Gets “Cocky” At Graduation

This is better than when my ex-boyfriend decided not to shake our principal’s hand at graduation.

Watch!!

Classic!

The AP reports the guy, a 19 year old from Saratoga Springs, NY, has to write a public apology to the city which will be published in a local paper.  He also has to pay a bunch of cheesy fees and do 24 hours of community service.

I wonder what his apology is going to be… I’m sooo gonna check their local paper online to see if I find it. If I do I will post the link.  AP article HERE.  The Saratogian (the paper that is supposed to publish his letter) wrote an article HERE.

Men That Make Me Swoon

Consider this a political break. I’m going through a dating dry spell and there are no men in sight worthy of breaking it, so like a teeny bopper I’ve decided to compile a list of cute celebrity men I have a crush on. That’s my attempt to keep myself on the market and out of the convent. :)

U.S. Military “Deserters” Welcome to Join Canucks

According to an Angus Reid Poll, 3 in 5 Canadians (that translates to 64%) would agree to a law that provided permanent Canadian residency to American military deserters. I guess they are as anti-Iraq as we are.

I think that’s good news.  I know I’m going to get flack for it, but there are soldiers who have been asked to serve more than they should and if they do make this terribly difficult decision, it’s good to know they are accepted somewhere.

The article states there are an estimated 200 deserters in Canada already. Currently, there isn’t a law to protect them in the books in their country and certainly not in ours.  Penalties for leaving the military include: 5 years in “confinement”.

Another Month of Dismal Approval Ratings

In a new AP-Ipsos poll, Americans gave Bush a 28% approval rating and Congress got an 18%.  Conservatives and liberals alike are also pessimistic with regard to the direction the country is going.  Three in ten republicans are happy while “fewer than one in ten” dems feel the same.

Bush polled the worst in his handling of the economy, what a shocker.

Not-So-Worthy Quote: John “Mysogynist” McCain

“Did you hear the one about the woman who is attacked on the street by a gorilla, beaten senseless, raped repeatedly and left to die? When she finally regains consciousness and tries to speak, her doctor leans over to hear her sigh contently and to feebly ask, ‘Where is that marvelous ape?’”

– Spoken by Mr. Straight Talk Express, John McCain (Article HERE). And yes, his jokes are a big deal because McCain is the king of indirect communication. He connects to people via his humor, only his humor is from the old school days when white men roamed the earth like dinosaurs and apparently raped women and bombed Iranians at will.  Those days are over McCan’t.  Time to retire. (Note, this quote is from 1986 but string this one with all his otehr jokes and you have a lifetime of ignorance.)

UPDATE: Olbermann discusses the rape “joke” HERE.

– The response to The New Yorker cover… I think someone should run with it. (I love how Cheney replaces Osama on the mantle.) How badly would conservatives freak out if this were to happen??? Probably not much since they hate McCain too! It’s not as offensive as the Obama one because being a white old guy is not going to potentially get McCain shot, but it’s similar enough.  Hat Tip to Andrew Sullivan.

Gitmo Interrogation Video

The following video has been leaked to the world via the US government due to the trial of twenty-one year old Omar Khadir. At the time of the video, he was a minor.

– Gratuitous booty shots!!  New Zealand introduces us to naked rugby. I’m not sure if there was even an article attached to this, but it does make for some interesting pictures.  Though, the men are all over each other… that either makes them Spartan or gay.  Or both?  See more pics HERE.

New Yorker Cover Hillariously Unfunny

This New Yorker magazine cover has received A LOT of press and I’ve finally formulated an opinion. Until they roll out with an equally satirical McCain cover (perhaps one of him dressed as Rambo shooting at muslims) then this cover isn’t funny.

Bush Lifts White House Ban On Offshore Drilling

Again with the political games.  President Bush lifted the White House ban on offshore drilling but Congress still has their ban till September 30th.  He says the balls in is Congress’ court now.  Hopefully they won’t cave like always to the will of the iron midget.

Remember, drilling in these places will NOT alleviate the current situation and MIGHT help us out like ten years from now.  But by then, gas prices will be so high we would have been forced to find other solutions anyway.

I am so frustrated by his inability to do anything logical.

Worthy Quote: CIA Officer

“Ninety percent of what we got is crap.”

– A CIA officer on the quality of information received from tortured suspects.  Now all we need to know is how good the remaining 10% is.  Is it worth losing our humanity for?  Article HERE.
