Neda, Iran, and John McCain

Posted by: BookGirl on: June 22, 2009

John McCain stood before his peers to discuss the events in Tehran and the death of a young Iranian woman named “Neda.”
Neda Soltan was shot and killed during a protest in the streets of Tehran. Viral videos of her bloody death have spread all over the internet.
Her name has become the newest rally cry for [...]

International Media Outlets Put Spin On Israeli-Hamas Conflict

Posted by: BookGirl on: January 5, 2009

I was checking the Twitter when I read a tweet from Arutz Sheva, the Israeli media outlet I subscribe to on the networking site.  The headline read: “Worldwide Rallies Support, Praise Israel’s War on Gaza Terrorism.”

The article attached to it went on to discuss how thousands of people are marching in cities across the world [...]

China Blocks New York Times Website

Posted by: BookGirl on: December 20, 2008

I betcha Bush wishes he could do this.
The Chinese government has blocked internet access to the New York Times website in their country.
Officials didn’t warn anybody it was going to happen. Instead, users who tried to log on to the site were notified it was “unavailable.”

According to MSNBC:
«A spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said they [...]

Posted by: BookGirl on: December 17, 2008

Lisa Valentine, a Muslim woman, wore a her usual headscarf when she accompanied a relative to traffic court.  The bailiff asked her remove it before going into the courtroom.

She refused and uttered “This is bullshit” as she departed.  The bailiff decided to arrest her and brought her before the bench of Judge Keith Rollins.
Rollins sentenced [...]

Ann Coulter Wants An Apology From Michelle Obama

Posted by: BookGirl on: December 16, 2008

What’s in a name?
A rose by any other word would smell as sweet- unless that word is in Arabic because that is the language of the terrorists.

Fear-monger extraordinaire Ann Coulter called the future President-Elect by the name “B. Hussein Obama” throughout the election to remind Americans of his Muslim ties because everyone knows being Muslim [...]

Miami Judge Oks Gay Adoption

Posted by: BookGirl on: November 25, 2008

It’s a move that will challenge Florida’s laws against gay adoption. A circuit judge in Miami made a ruling in favor of Martin Gill, a gay man, who wants to adopt two foster children he’s been raising.
Gay adoption does NOT challenge families,
it encourages them.

McCain Hangs Out with ACORN People

Posted by: BookGirl on: October 14, 2008

This video has popped up on the internets exposing that McCain palls around with terrorists.

ACORN is the newest organization to be smeared and deemed un-American by the GOP.  I guess that footage was of McCain’s maverick days when he used to go slumming with the middle class where as now he [...]

Racism: It’s the Patriotic Thing To Do (Updated)

Posted by: BookGirl on: September 25, 2008

This is just sick, sick, sick.
A lifesize cardboard cut out of democratic presidential nominee, Barack Obama, was hung from a tree at George Fox University.  The school is located in Newberg, Oregon and AP describes it as small and Christian, so I’m going to assume the area is conservative.

The perpetrators had more than the cardboard [...]

Race Relations and American Politics

On the radio today I heard a local hip hop station talking about the election. The female DJ pointed out that John McCain’s great-grandfather owned a large plantation with somewhere around 60 slaves, killing 20 of them throughout the years.  She inferred any black person with the same last name would be a [...]

Why Losing The Election Might Actually Mean You Are Smarter

Posted by: BookGirl on: September 16, 2008

I covered a Constitution Day event for my college paper yesterday. Noted historian and New York Times best-selling author, Rick Shenkman, was on campus to discuss our nation’s founding document.
He authored the book, “Just How Stupid Are We?”  about how ill informed American voters are.  The facts he shared were highly disturbing.

Green Party Takes “Historic Election” To a New Level

Posted by: BookGirl on: September 14, 2008

My blogger cohort and I have been following our respective parties’ attempts to make this election historic and game changing with increasing fervor.  However, we have failed to note that the Green Party, a third party that’s been most commonly associated with Ralph Nader, is making history on it’s own.

They have nominated a black woman [...]

Denver Protests Remind Me Of The Evil Empire

Posted by: BookGirl on: September 5, 2008

We have the freedom to protest our government as long as the men clad in black holding billy clubs don’t beat us up.

Pretty soon we will be able to be arrested for simply thinking about protesting.

Worthy Quote: Jeneau Empire Editorial

Posted by: BookGirl on: September 1, 2008

“Abstinence may be a laudable goal, but failing to educate teenagers about how to protect themselves from disease or unintended pregnancy is tragically misguided. According to the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy, abstinence-only programs do not reduce sexual activity, teen pregnancy or sexually transmitted disease. Every day 10,000 U.S. teens contract a sexually transmitted [...]

This is gave me chills. If this is fully true, I am not shocked, but terribly unsettled.
