Bhutto’s Widower Wins Pakistani Election

Posted by: BookGirl on: September 6, 2008

Benazir Bhutto’s widower, Asif Ali Zardari, was elected president of Pakistan by what the Huffington Post describes as an “overwhelming” margin.

He’s bringing in democracy, but this quote from a supporter kind of troubled me:

«”We want him to save Pakistan from becoming Iraq and Afghanistan. We are a nuclear power and he should not bow to international powers.”»

I hope they will do better under him than Musharraf, but I also hope we don’t have any problems come up because of this.  If you can recall, Musharraf was Bush’s ally but he wasn’t the best for the Pakistani people.
