Bush Administration Seeking Backdoor to End Women’s Choice

Posted by: BookGirl on: August 13, 2008

Since overturning Roe V. Wade has been a little more difficult than they expected, the ultra conservative Bush Administration is moving on to their usual shady and illegal practices.

The Houston Chronicle reports:

«Health and Human Services officials are considering a draft regulation that would classify most birth control pills, the Plan B emergency contraceptive and intrauterine devices as forms of abortion because they prevent the development of fertilized eggs into fetuses.

The rule, which does not require congressional approval, would allow health care workers who object to abortion on moral or religious grounds to refuse to counsel women on their birth control options or supply contraceptives. It would forbid more than half a million health agencies nationwide that receive federal funds from requiring employees to provide such services. Pharmacists could use the rule as a justification for refusing to fill birth control prescriptions, and insurance companies could cite it as a basis for declining to cover the costs.»

The public will not be a part of this decision to define contraceptives as abortion.  There will be no votes in Congress, nor will there be a Supreme Court landmark ruling. The Bush Administration paper pushers sought to switch a few words around and avoid the due process that democratic nations require of their government. It’s no surprise transparency is being avoided by this damnable group of political mafiosos. We, who not only want to protect everyone’s access to controceptive use but also want to protect our right to vote on these matters, need to spread the word.

Shouldn’t the choice the woman has to choose also be paired with the choice a health care professional has to supply such contraceptives if they don’t agree with it?
