California Rules In Favor Of Gay Marriage

The most populated state in our country just decided to make gay marriage (not civil unions) legal. The state’s Supreme Court overturned a ban by a slim margin of 4-3. They are only the second state to allow for gay marriage. Surprisingly Bushlandia, otherwise known as Texas by liberals, is the first. (Article HERE)

I’m pretty sure the decision is going to piss a lot of people off and bring the topic of a constitutional amendment back on the table for Obama and McCain. That gives me a headache.

This is a state issue and the federal government shouldn’t be involved. If you don’t like it, don’t live in California. And besides, there’s a portion of the constitution that covers this already. It’s called the “separation of church and state.”

UPDATE: An AP article HERE explains this topic as a reemerging campaign issue and explains where McCain stands on it:

«McCain rejected the will of the state’s high court even as he tried to maintain his long-held stance that the issue should be left to the states. He suggested that he backs an effort by California’s religious conservatives to put a constitutional amendment defining marriage as solely between a man and a woman on the November ballot.

The Arizona senator opposes gay marriage but, in a break with the GOP’s right flank, he also opposes a federal constitutional amendment banning same-sex unions on grounds that states traditionally have decided the issue. McCain did work to ban gay marriage in Arizona, campaigning for a ballot measure there in 2006. The measure failed.»

I am pacified for now.

  1. Bookgirl,
Yes This will be brought up in the general election. Your answer is well spoken. Politics should not be mixed with religion.

The two do not match. There is always a conflict. I bet the issue will be handed with care

  2. Bilia:

That’s always been my problem with the ban on gay marriage. The basis of this rejection of a common civil right is usually based on prejudices and religion. The right wants to push their morality on the politics of America.

Homosexual American and Heterosexual America are both America. We would not tolerate segregated schools, we should not tolerate segregated love.

    Thanks. :)
